Spotlight on Success: Forming Safer Workplaces, Strengthening Loss Performance, and Reducing Workers' Compensation Insurance Costs
A group of passionate, engaged, and caring Indiana based independent hospitals banded together to provide high-value healthcare services in their communities by forming Suburban Health Organization (SHO). This group offers its members many shared services, and has a captive for their risk management needs, including workers' compensation.
SHO, their broker Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. and PMA Companies Specialty Insurance Division partnered together to lower their workers' compensation costs, protect employees and prevent injuries.
Combining the efforts of eight hospitals involved in a workers’ compensation program
can seem daunting, however for the SHO team, they had the right formula. SHO’s dynamic
Workers’ Compensation Committee, with one or two representatives per hospital, worked
closely with PMA Companies and Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. to identify improvement
opportunities and develop solutions. Leveraging PMA Risk Control’s expertise in healthcare,
SHO created a revitalized culture of safety that has resulted in significantly improved
workers’ compensation outcomes.
Partnership Results
- 75% better, on average*, lost-time frequency rate than their industry peers (2019-2013)*
