Suburban Physicians Participating in Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI)

Employed physicians from Suburban hospitals, in keeping with their long-standing commitment to quality care, were among the first participants in the PQRI voluntary program for 2007 and have continued that commitment for 2008.

Preliminary data from CMS on the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative, or PQRI, show that only 16% of the eligible professionals who could have reported quality data, did so at least once in 2007.

Physicians from Hancock Regional Hospital, Henry County Hospital, Morgan Hospital & Medical Center, Riverview Hospital and Witham Health Services initiated reporting in 2007. These hospitals as well as Westview Medical Campus and St. Vincent Physician Network providers also are participating in 2008 PQRI measurements.

Measure topics selected by SHO physicians included diabetes (selected by most), perioperative care, coronary artery disease, COPD, pediatric asthma, appropriate care for children, and urinary incontinence.

The PQRI program, which currently involves pay for reporting, is expected to evolve into a pay-for-performance program in the future. Periodic program updates can be found at: www.cms.hhs.gov/pqri.
